You’ll thank yourself in the long run
As we grow older, we can often look back on our childhood friends with rose-tinted glasses. We are still friends with them years later even though we no longer have the same common interests, political views, or aims in life.
We hold tightly to those friendships that were so integral to our formative years.
But when should we let go of them?
When do we accept that they are no longer serving us and it’s time to cut ties and move on?
Saying goodbye to old friendships can be tough, but often needed.
Should We Treat Our Friends Like Our Partners?
I don’t know about you, but I often find that I treat my friends differently to the men in my life.
Perhaps I’ll give them more leeway or accept some of their less than humble brags or opinions.
I let them off with the old “Oh, leave them, it’s just the way they are!”
But just because it’s ‘the way they are’, doesn’t mean that should be acceptable, does it?
In recent years, I’ve internally started to treat my friends the way I would someone I’m dating. If they say something problematic, I call them…
