Friendships are often heralded as invaluable treasures, built upon shared experiences, trust, and unwavering support.

Yet, what happens when this very foundation crumbles, leaving you feeling betrayed and abandoned?

This is the reality I’ve been dealing with for the past six months, ever since my so-called best friend of 18 years disowned me following a startling revelation.

The Confession

It all began with a confession — a moment of vulnerability that I believed would only deepen our bond. After all, I had done what she had done, but on a smaller scale. Surely, she would be able to relate to me? Surely, she would see my side and give me advice as to what to do next? Surely, she would listen to me in the days and weeks that followed when all I did was cry and felt heartbroken?

But, little did I know it would lead to the unraveling of a long-held and what I thought was a close friendship.

I confided in my best friend about a decision I had made, one that mirrored a choice she had made in the past and instead of finding solace in our shared experiences, she reacted with anger and a hell of a lot of projection.
